Purpose Statement
AAHIVM Fundamentals of HIV Medicine and this accredited post test are designed for use by physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and pharmacists specializing in care of HIV-infected individuals throughout the United States. The fully revised, single volume is recognized as a comprehensive clinical resource for the latest information on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HIV disease. Learning Objectives
Nearly 200 learning objectives are addressed in AAHIVM Fundamentals of HIV Medicine. Among them: " US Epidemiology: Describe current demographic trends in HIV disease in the United States, especially regarding gender, sexuality, race/ethnicity, age, injection-drug use, socioeconomic status, emerging subtypes and patterns of viral resistance. " Transmission Modes: Explain the modes of sexual and nonsexual transmission of HIV and their relative risks. " Public Health Interventions: Describe major features of CDC guidelines for implementing HIV prevention. " Universal Precautions: Describe the scientific rationale and specific components of universal precautions in health care settings for preventing transmission of bloodborne pathogens (i.e., HIV, HBV, HCV). " HIV Life Cycle: Demonstrate a knowledge of basic HIV virology, including details of HIV attachment to its host cells and the life-cycle stages that are currently used as pharmacologic targets, and potential future targets.
